Past recipients of the Peter A. Hess Community Service Scholarship Award from the Robert R. McCormick Club gathered for a holiday celebration last December to share college life stories and their future aspirations with loved ones and McCormick Club staff.

Taking place at the Parrot Cage Restaurant in the South Shore Cultural Center, the former McCormick alums who are now enrolled at Northern Illinois University, Chicago State University, Clark-Atlanta University & St. John's University were joined by Mary A. Hess and family for this festive event.

The Peter A. Hess Community Service Scholarship Award was created in memory of Peter Allen Hess, an alumnus and long-time board member of the Robert R. McCormick Boys & Girls Club.  As a young member of the club, Mr. Hess was a recipient of a college scholarship.  As he became an adult, he consistently demonstrated the values and responsibility so often stressed at the club and remained committed to helping others.  As a result, this scholarship bearing his name, is given annually to the club member who best demonstrates Mr.  Hess’ sense of commitment to the community, his spirit of giving, and his belief in creating opportunities for others.
